“High Island” - named after a small island with great elevation in northern Maine. This unique two-structure abode is perched atop a 21-acre wooded hill sloping to dramatic river views. Part modern tree house, part vintage tiny house, this dwelling consists of two elevated structures accessed via meandering walkway, connected by a rope bridge. This dwelling also has its very own Maine built wood-fired cedar hot-tub. It’s the place to experience the airiness of life up among the trees.
This two-structure abode, with a rope bridge and a veranda in the trees, offers stunning river views.
The first structure contains nothing but the simple elegance of a king sized bed before an entire wall of south facing windows, affording river views and sunshine in the morning. The king bed can be set up as two twin beds upon request.
The second structure includes a small kitchen / dining area with large windows for water views, a small full bathroom, and a screened-in porch with sitting area and river views. The kitchen includes a two-burner stove, sink, small fridge, pots, pans, dishes, and a toaster oven (no regular oven).
The dwelling has its very own Maine built wood-free cedar hot-tub with an outdoor dining area right new to it. The outdoor dining area has a charcoal grill. On ground level there's a fire-pit, please bring your own fire-wood for the fire-pit.
Both structures have views across a river bay, past conservation land, and down the river. Canoes and kayaks are available to use at any time.
Entire Property note: We are now offering guests the option to book the Entire Property, including all 21 acres, all 3 tree dwellings, gathering space in the trees and cookhouse. The gathering space is a pristine 24x32 lofted room built around three mammoth pines. It contains walls of windows and a 32’ x 12’ deck overlooking the river. The interior space includes a dining table, fireplace, and art supplies. Table and chairs collapse and hide for open space. Our latest addition, the cookhouse, is a fully equipped kitchen with a long community style table with seating for 20 people. Perfect for board games and dinners with friends and family.

We absolutely loved our stay in this tranquil, cozy treehouse. We were looking for a quiet getaway not too far from home where we could unplug and be surrounded by nature. Isle Au Haut certainly fit the bill and we wish we could have stayed longer. We also had a lot of fun exploring nearby Reid State Park and the City of Bath. We hope to be back again!
We've been wanting to stay in one of these tree dwellings for many years now and finally made it happen to celebrate a milestone birthday for my husband. It did not disappoint! The clean and simple interior and large windows allowed the focus to be on the spectacular view. Spent a lot of time in the hot tub watching a pair of eagles over the river. The space is thoughtfully designed and equipped so that guests can just enjoy being there, and I know we'll plan to return.
The Isle Au Haut was the perfect location for a 2 day rest while on a long journey. The design of the space allows for one to truly settle into the environment. The subtle collaboration of nature and human intervention bring together a sense of relaxation. The wood fired hot tub and breathtaking views made for a truly unique experience. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy something unique and beautiful.
We stayed at Isle Au Haut for 3 nights, and we loved the wall of windows from the extremely comfortable bed, the Adirondack chairs in the screened in porch, and the kitchen that was perfectly appointed for our short stay. The hot tub was easy to fire, and we even took some early morning dips, still warm from the night before - they even provide warm robes! Our views of the marsh were excellent morning, noon, and night. 10/10 would definitely go back!
I was enchanted from my first glimpse of the treehouse coming up the drive. It really feels a world away from the main road! Waking up with a floor to ceiling view of the woods was incredible. Morning coffee (the owners roast their own and keep a bag in the kitchen cupboard) on the balcony with the birds was incredible. Golden hour in the Adirondack chairs was incredible. I loved staying here and can't wait to come back.
This 70 year old woman reverted back to childhood when everything was full of wonder and possibilities. I barely left this treehouse. It’s the perfect place to relax and restore the spirit. Equipped with everything you could want. So unique and perfect. I hope to come back!
I stayed at Isle Au Haut for a couple of nights in July to celebrate a big birthday. It was unlike any other trip I've ever had. The serenity, the comfort, being surrounded by nature with everything I needed and nothing that I didn't. It was the reset I never knew I could have. So lovely.
A perfect blend of traditional camping and a 5-star hotel. The property is well maintained and the cabins are very comfortable.
Isle Au Haut was everything I was looking for and more. Tranquil, quiet, relaxing. The wood-fired hot tub was an amazing way to end each evening (beware, it can get really hot). There are hiking trails everywhere around including on the property. The free use of the canoes and kayaks is a great way to spend a bunch of hours on the water right behind the tree house. There are great restaurants right near by including Five Island Lobster and the Osprey (both are musts). Walking up with the sun, and sitting on the screened in porch with my cup of coffee overlooking the Back River and the woods was magical. Next time I am staying four or five nights, three wasn't enough.
Isle Au Haut blew me away the moment I pulled up. A magical little treehouse nestled in the trees with a gorgeous view. I went for a little solo retreat and this cozy space was everything I could have hoped for and more. The location is perfect for grabbing treats in town, or heading out to beach. But mostly I relaxed in the treehouse enjoying the tranquility, the hot tub, the views, and the wildlife. A magical stay. I can't wait to return!
